Gratitude Story from Jakarta, Indonesia

If you wanted to send a thank-you note to someone in your life, who would it be, and what is one of your best memories of that person? I would like to send a thank you note to my wife, Ima. We have been together for almost 40 years. I am 63 years old and she is 59 years old. Since we have been together for a long time, we have had a lot of moments together. It’s hard to pick just one, but there is a memory that will always stick in my mind. I’m not a romantic person, and I’m not good at telling stories. I hope this will be appealing enough. It was 10 or 11 years ago. I was a heavy smoker. I could smoke 1-2 packages of cigarettes a day, and 1 package contained around 10 cigarettes. Like you, I always knew that smoking was a bad habit, but I did it every day. I felt calm when I smoked. There was a time that my smoking habit backfired on me. I started to cough, and was sick. It felt hard to breathe, so I went to the doctor and he said I should stop smoking. Like any other heavy smoker, it was hard to quit smoking. It was my wife who supported me while I tried to quit. She was the one who always yelled at me when I tried to smoke even only 1 or 2 cigarettes a day. It was a very hard process. It took almost a year for me to really stop smoking. However, my wife patiently accompanied me through the whole process. She supported me all the time. Sometimes, she asked me to wake up in the morning so that we could run together. She pushed me to start living a good and healthy life, because she didn’t want to lose me too soon. Her persistence and love was the best booster for me to quit smoking. You know, I would like to spend our life together. I want to see our sons married and having children. I want to play with our grandchildren. Thanks to my wife, I passed through the process and fully stopped smoking. It would have been an incredibly hard process if I tried to do it alone. She was always there and never stopped supporting me. Thank you. I love you, my angel. ( Jakarta,Indonesia)
