Robinson displayed character, skill, and incredible courage

In the face of seemingly insurmountable pressure and constant suffering, Robinson displayed character, skill, and incredible courage that forever changed the game and the landscape of our country. In his honor, every player, coach, and the referee will donate the number 42 as an annual tribute to Robinson’s greatness, except this year there are a few changes and more worthy 75th-anniversary celebrations. While the Rangers are also celebrating the 50th anniversary of the first game in Texas, the Rangers are once again playing the Angels, who were their first opponents. The Rangers lost their first game 1-0 to the then California Angels and look to start the next 50 years with a win. More Rangers greats are expected to appear in the next few games, including names like Tom Grieve, Toby Harra, Ferguson Jenkins and Jim Sandberg, Al Oliver, Jeff Burroughs, and many more. Former pitcher Boseman, who first started the Rangers’ game on April 15, is also expected to throw the first pitch. Many of these players will also be signing autographs.

Also, the first 15,000 Rangers fans can get their hands on a Charlie Pride Rangers dummy tonight. The late singer was a longtime friend of the baseball club, and his son Dion sang the national anthem.

Today, 25 years ago, Ken Griffey Jr asked to wear number 42 on Jackie Robinson Day and the request was granted and the players followed suit by creating the league’s annual 42 outfits. While tonight is no different as players, coaches and referees will wear the number 42 as in previous years, although the 42 Dodgers will be blue regardless of the team’s color. Along with this, 42 team colors will be patched on the sleeves and caps of the teams.

But that is not all. While the league teams honor Jackie with various displays of respect, the Rangers pay tribute to Robinson.
